2 hour shoot. 1 killer pink suit.

Last month I had the pleasure of photographing Mei Huang around the streets of Bloomsbury in London. 

Mei had approached me because she had decided to invest in a personal branding shoot in order to update her professional profile. What images did she want? A collection of portraits that reflected her personality and energy and also allowed her to communicate her professionalism. 

Through an initial discussion we chose the area around Bloomsbury to shoot. It was meaningful to Mei as she had previously studied in that area and whilst the streets provided plenty of interesting backgrounds. 

We decided to concentrate mainly on creating a set of headshots for her, so that when she uses the images on platforms like LinkedIn, she was easily recognisable. 

As a photographer and working with someone who is investing in updating their professional profile image, it is always really important to me to give them a collection of photos that has a degree of variety. 

For that I asked her to bring at least 2 different options as different colours, necklines and textures can make a huge difference to the outcome. As you can see, the star outfit was an amazing pink suit!!

Another point of variety was getting her to look directly at the camera and then away. Not only do I find this helps relax someone into a shoot, but it also impacts how the viewer reads the image. 

Lastly one of the parts I most enjoy playing around with is the the background. Initially starting with a plain wall, I always make sure to plan out my workflow of locations and will consider colours, shapes and light when choosing different spots. I will also make sure to shoot in my favourite location near the end as that is often the point where the magic of a shoot happens - where everyone is feeling super confident, relaxed and everything else comes together.
