Creative Photography Workshops for Carers UK

From April - June 2022 I am working with Carers UK to deliver a short series of online creative photography workshops as part of their ‘Share and Learn’ programme.

Today I facilitated my second session for them which was based around nature and included two different activities.

The first was to ‘Capture the Rainbow’, where participants were asked to make a photograph for each colour of the rainbow. I love this activity as not only is it open-ended, which invites participants to be creative, but it also serves as an introduction as to how colour can be used in photographs.  Often the answer as to why an image is incredibly striking or invokes a certain emotion can be found in the photographer’s use of colour.

The second activity was then to answer ‘How does nature interact with the built environment?’.  Like with any of the activities I run in workshops, the process outweighs the end result. For many people, this can often be the first time they have asked themselves a question whilst taking a photo.

Being accessible to everyone, no matter their level of visual literacy or visual tools they have access to, the aim is to encourage a more mindful state and one which inspires them to start using the camera as a tool to express themselves.

Throughout the workshop it was a pleasure to see and hear how they all got on, and I was so impressed by how many were challenging themselves to really get stuck in, play and experiment in such a short amount of time.

I am looking forward to June where the next workshop will be based on responding to famous photographs.
